Rosswag adds fourth LPBF system to expand AM capabilities
Rosswag Engineering, a leading supplier of special metal powders, high-quality components and qualification services in the additive metal manufacturing environment has added the new AL3D-METAL LPBF system from laser system manufacturer Alpha Laser to its holistic process chain in December 2020.
The new LPBF system is significantly smaller than the current systems at Rosswag, what leads to advantages for the material qualification services. The high-efficient qualification workflow of new AM materials at Rosswag is based on the in-house production of small quantities of metal powder (< 50 kg). The AL3D-METAL system offers the possibility to provide initial results about the processing and process capability of a metal powder at a manageable investment. By derived transfer functions, the identified parameter sets can be scaled to bigger LPBF systems for prototype manufacturing.
The AL3D-METAL system has an innovative cartridge concept that promises convenient and safe powder handling. Three identical cartridges are required to use the 3D printer, with one acting as a powder reservoir, the second as a build platform and the third as a powder overflow. The cylindrical build volume has a diameter of 50 mm and a height of 50 mm. The system's 200 W laser works with a fine focus diameter of 50 µm for a high surface quality.
