New material qualified and new LPBF applications exploited
We have successfully qualified Super Duplex Steel 1.4501 / UNS S32760 on our Nikon SLM Solutions systems.
This stainless steel combines an austenitic–ferritic microstructure with very high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. In chloride-containing environments, 1.4501 stands out with strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking 🌊That makes it a solid choice for seawater and maritime applications!
For LPBF, the material is particularly interesting for complex geometries where corrosion performance and mechanical strength must go hand in hand. Typical operating temperatures up to 280 °C ensure stable microstructures and reliable performance.
With its good weldability, 1.4501 opens new design freedom for pipeline components, tanks and parts for chemical, petrochemical and offshore industries.
