R&D Project FENI-X | From resilience strategy to shop floor reality

Resilient production is impossible without resilient quality assurance. The FENI-X project strengthens resilience in production networks so companies can respond faster to disruptions. At Rosswag Engineering, we focus on a practical lever: in-line quality assurance for LPBF metal parts.

FENI-X creates a structured framework of metrics and measures, supported by data models, AI, and digital twins. In metal AM, LPBF reduces lead times for complex components—but only when quality is verified. Using the AMiquam W2 sensor, we monitor process signals during the build and detect anomalies in real time, without sacrificing parts for destructive testing.

With over 110,000 printed components and an end-to-end setup from powder production (50+ alloys) to materials lab, we know: repeatability builds trust.

What drives resilience in your factory – planning tools or real-time proof of quality?

Many thanks to Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld for hosting us and creating such a great atmosphere, and to Fissler for the exciting and insightful factory tour.

FENI-X is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) and supervised by the Project Management Agency Karlsruhe (PTKA) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
